CommUnity Arts Center
Trying to open.. M,T,W,F 6-9pm (Summer hours)
Altoona City Park, 9th St. West next to the (tennis/b-ball) courts
The ultimate goal of Family Ties-Altoona is to maintain a Community Arts
Center. The old Fish House that closed back in '96 has been reopened as
the "Phish Haus" with a creative flare, 'Java & Jive'.
JAVA upstairs ~ music cafe (soon) with wi-fi and a few computers.
JIVE downstairs ~ bands & artists space for expressive creations.
Our wish supports the recognition of our economy for a fee-free hang-out.
Operations, workshops, and programs may be supported by events and
the cafe. We'll see.. All members continue to dedicate their time and
efforts as volunteers so more volunteer support is needed. Maybe you
don't have the time to volunteer... You can still help make a difference
with monetary or item donations, teaching workshops, or being a member
on the board of directors. Please contact us through email, phone,
facebook, or postal with any help to be offered.
Tweens & Teens should be responsible to hang-out in the center without
the supervision of an older responsible family member. We are not
certified or licensed to offer childcare services. A responsible adult will
be available for JAVA at minimum and another adult for JIVE as possible.
We are not responsible for supervising the park or courts. First aid,
water fountain, and rest rooms are available when the center is open.
We will host stand-up poetry, dances, comedy, painting and drawing
workshops, singing and acting talent shows, as well as a place for young
bands/artists to practice and create. Students can do their homework
after school. There are also plenty of games to include chess boards.
